Architecture
Full renovation of a listed office building from the 1970ies.
Planning 2015-2017 / Construction 2017-2018
New requirements in terms of building physics and fire protection called for the renovation of this 1968 administrative building in Zurich’s Enge quarter. The most compelling element in the architecture by Rudolf Zürcher was the façade, a striking exoskeleton of slim, square solid steel supports. A curtain wall and parapet linings made of aluminium castings completed the look, which was typical of the period. The façade renovation left the grid unchanged, though the internal supports replace the exoskeleton. Fine pilaster strips highlight the ‘vertical accent’ of the building (R. Zürcher).
