The new entrance to the Gateway Park is marked with an easily recognisable and formally reduced volume. Its precise and distinct form is visible from a distance and reveals its complexity with the progressive approach of the beholder.
Planning 2013-2014
This new cultural centre in the west of Taiwan combines a library and a museum of art in a streamlined building that marks the entrance to the new Gateway Park. On the ground floor, the volume opens up and interlaces exterior and interior into a covered public space.
The spaces of the two institutions are interwoven in a kind of double-helix formation. As they head upwards, visitors to the museum walk all the way around the building. The path that skirts the outer walls is punctuated by informal gathering places of an open nature. The entranceway to the library in the inner courtyard forms the second strand of the double helix. The two uses of the building merge together in the entrance area on the second floor.
