Planning 2007-2009 / Construction 2008-2009

This house from the 17th century stands in the middle of the vineyards of Malans. Following inadequate conversion work, the building needed to be returned to its basic structure. To do this, it was stripped back to its shell. The basic structure of the building – a square divided up by asymmetrical cross-walls – continues to define the layout to this day. The bathroom and kitchen are housed in a new extension with a concrete foundation and wooden structure, which replaces the existing annexe. The four-metre-high tower is now home to a library. The heritage-listed façade was reconstructed using archaeological studies.
